However, in the Republican Party there are some written restrictions but how binding they are is questionable.

Read the article and draw your own conclusions. I end up believing the custom of "smoke filled backroom deal making" is still alive and well.
I believe this is again reinforcement of my frequent point of how important it is to become directly involved in local politics if you want to influence the outcome of elections and by inference the direction of the government.
