United States: Democracy?

Is the United States a "Democracy"? Well, NO! The form of national government we have is a republic. Specifically a representative republic. So, this means that of the three branches of government, we the citizens of the nation, are able to directly elect members of exactly ONE branch; the legislative (i.e. congress). Why? I suggest you reference "the Federalist Papers" for the best answer http://www.foundingfathers.info/federalistpapers/ . In my opinion there were some very sound reasons for organizing our government like this. <--- I just read that previous sentence, it sound much more arrogant than I intended. What I mean to say is, I've NEVER thought I was the smartest guy in the room ( like the ENRON guys did ). Anyway, the system we have has worked well and I see no reason to misunderstand it, and then promulgate that misunderstanding to others. Our news and information media do a wonderful job of doing just that. We DO, however, directly elect our city, county and state leaders and representatives. And we directly elect our representatives and senators for congress. When someone says their voice isn't heard, explain the system to them. How do we hold these people accountable? Two ways that I know of are to write them and tell them how you want to be represented and how you want them to vote, etc. The other way is YOUR VOTE!!
